The Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society's 1998 Career Development Seminar, August 2-4 in Oak Brook, Illinois, outside Chicago, was the biggest ever, with 440 registrants attending the two general sessions, two luncheons, 35 breakouts – not to mention NAIC hands-on computer training, board meeting and other activities.

There were plenty of unforgettable moments, including the liveliest-ever Commissioners Roundtable (right), featuring three commissioners plus the witty emceeing of William E. Bailey, general counsel of the Insurance Information Institute (and host of his own syndicated phone-in insurance radio show).

New board, committees chosen
The Oak Brook meeting entailed more than merely the annual Career Development Seminar. It was also the scene of the annual meeting of the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society.

Gary W. Meyer, CIE, FLMI, ACS, AIC, ALCH, was elected president by a vote of the Society's membership, and then presided over his first board meeting (left).

If you'd like to volunteer to speak at future conferences, or you know of a person you'd like to hear, or you wish to suggest a topic that needs to be covered in a future seminar, be sure to go back to the main CDS page and click on the button next to that section.

Other highlights of the Oak Brook meeting were presentation of the President's Award (left), which this year was presented to Angela Ford, CIE, North Carolina, by outgoing president Christel Szczesniak, CIE, Colorado, as well as the always tantalizing Art & John show (below right), plus presentation of the Al Greer Award – which recognizes the IRES member who epitomizes the hard-working, honest, caring commitment that is the hallmark of a professional regulator and went last year to Mary Lou Clack of Missouri.
